Life at Steinbach Haus

This is Sebastian and Maria's house. It's nestled in a valley of the mountain where Wernigerode Castle sits.

Their backyard is home to roses, butterflies, a beehive, herbs and plenty of birds.

On Sunday, we ate breakfast outside. Typical German breakfast includes "brotchen" (German rolls that are crusty on the outside and soft on the inside) and many spreads: jams, honey, cheeses, thinly sliced meats, butter, quark, spicy cheese spread, nut butters etc.

This is probably my favorite aspect of German food culture.
