Munchie's new friend, Evan Couchman

Proud papa, Brenden Couchman holds Evan James, who was born this morning at JSMC. Jennifer and Brenden have been good friends to Joe and I since we moved to Hoptown.

Steve and I went to meet Evan today... Stephen was more excited about the balloons we brought than his new soon-to-be playmate. But I imagine one day they'll be running around together!

Clean escape

After drying off from today's bath, Munchie flipped onto his stomach by twisting his body and using his head to prop himself up and get his arm out from under him.
Then he went for the soap bottle, which for some inexplicable reason had him intranced during his bath.
He really enjoyed the squeaky noise of his finger nails on the changing pad that I use to catch the spashes.
What a happy guy!

A book he can't ruin

Stephen loves to destroy books, magazines and basically anything that is made of paper. He revels in the crumply noise and can crush and devour a page in a split second. I've had to retrieve soggy paper pulp from his mouth on more than one occasion.
Thankfully, he's got a book that makes plenty of crinkle noises and won't dissolve if he sucks on it.

Munchbox

On a whim, I thought I'd place my son in a box. He doesn't look extremely happy in this picture, but don't believe what you see. He loved it. Here's a few more shots to prove it:

Sleeping on the job again

"Let's make a big breakfast tomorrow. I don't have to leave until later," says my husband last night.
I raise one eyebrow and smile until he concedes.
"Okay, you make breakfast and I'll watch Munchie."

So this morning I set to work on banana pancakes and scrambled eggs after depositing my freshly fed little one in Joe's arms.

At first I heard all the usual giggles and squeaks of their happy morning playtime. I was nearly done with the pancake batter when I noticed I hadn't heard anything for about five minutes...I decided I better go inspect.

Deja vous?

Happy 6 months!

Munchie has been hollering from his crib lately because he flips onto his tummy and gets stuck. But this is a photo of him having a relatively happy tummy time, propped on some blankets.
Yesterday was Stephen's 6-month birthday. Stephen also had his 6-month appointment today... he is 14 pounds, 25 1/2 inches and "very healthy and happy" says our nurse. He got two shots and an oral vaccine and only cried a little. I was so proud :-)
He is totally fascinated by my guitar and Joe has been in the habit of serenading him each night when he gets home from work.

I will now jump through the hoop

Thanks to Aunt Alice for the big fleece blanket... we use it for tummy time, which inevitably turns into back time.

Toe fun

I decided to let Stephen play with his feet between outfits this morning. He had a grand time.

Mikey likes it

Per my mom's advice, I tasted the generic baby electrolyte drink that I've been trying to feed Stephen. It isn't even close to Gatorade! But just when I was going to forgive him for spitting the stuff out, he decides he likes it after all.

Stephen is pretty good at holding his own bottle. Sometimes he even takes it out of his mouth and looks at it a few seconds before putting it back in.

Crib workout

I just found Stephen in a funny predicament of his own design. I had to take a photo before rescuing him. :-)
As I post, Munchie is kicking the bars of his crib over and over and squealing at the noise he's making.

He's been in a really good mood. He was so well-behaved while I went to get my Kentucky driver's license. (Yes. I'm very bad. I've been living in Hoptown for 3 years and I was still hanging on to my Illinois driver's license.) But my birthday is in two days and it was about to expire so I had to bite the bullet. Anyhow, the waiting room at the Justice Center is just two long cushioned benches facing each other, so I was nervous about Stephen getting fussy. But he just sat on my lap contentedly, looking at the half dozen people also waiting. Smiling at each one until the strangers reciprocated. Very cute. He made mama proud. He didn't even fuss much when I made him lie in my lap so they could take my ID photo :-) Joe joked that if Munchie was sitting in my lap, my driver's license would have a little wisp of hair sticking up under my chin. That would have been pretty cute, but I thought it safer to keep him out of the frame.

The poor kid is over the nasty cold he had in January, but now his little GI is on the fritz. I've been trying to give him Pedialyte, but you'd think it was turpentine or something. He spits out most of what I get in his mouth. Oh. gross. He's just spit up the rest on my leg. Well, better post now!
