Cruising

Stephen is getting pretty good at inching along his crib. I've built him a three-sided corral of sorts with the crib, his infant seat and the futon chair. And I guess I serve as the fourth side, waiting to catch him if he starts to teeter.

Yesterday he even pulled himself up from sitting to standing by grabbing onto the crib bars. It's only a matter of time before we have to lower the crib mattress. Bye-bye storage space.

I'm looking forward to moving into our new house. Hopefully that will be in the next few weeks, but I'm not holding my breath (or packing, mom!)

I'm envisioning lots of wall shelves to house all the breakables and potentially hazardous things to keep them well away from little probing hands.

Picking clover, but not eating them

Just look at those cute little chicken legs, would ya?

First Haircut

We got through right side with the clippers, then Munchie decided he didn't like getting his haircut!! But we persevered and got rid of all the side and back scragglies. I left the nice thick part on top the way it was, but his bangs probably do need a trim too. Below, Before:

Look what I can do, Mom!

Don't worry, filing cabinet is locked and Joe is right behind him in case Stephen goes "Timber!"-- which he often does when he forgets to hold on or tries to stare at the ceiling fan for too long. As a side note, you can tell why it's so difficult for little guys like Munchie to mobilize-- his head a great deal bigger than any other part on his baby body. Must take a colossal effort to stay upright!
It's a quiet morning at the Parrino's. Stephen is taking yet another nap!!! Maybe this will be his new routine.... taking a nap every day. I would love that, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I'm thinking this week's snoozing is just a product of that mean and nasty head cold.

More babies!

Stephen took a 2-hour nap this morning, allowing me to sneak outside to get a couple shots of the bluebird box's newest family of 5 little fuzzy-head birds.

doctor's visit

Stephen is a little goo-ball today with mucous coming out of every possible place. It's pretty yucky... So we got a work-in appointment at the pediatrician. We found out that it's nothing more than a bad cold, no ear infection or chest problems. Also found out that he's almost 27 inches long and 15 pounds 6 ounces... with diaper. That puts him just below the curve for weight and 25th percentile for height.

Some exciting updates

I love the pictures in the last post so much I almost hated to post something new without good art. But alas, I'm going to just jot a few quick updates without any photos (*edit at 6:30* now with a cute snack time photo): Munchie just started creeping on Tuesday... he's been a pro at rotating for a long time, but he finally figured out how to army-crawl himself forward to grasp a toy or something he imagines to be a toy. He's also got eating Cheerios and puffs down pat. Sometimes he wants to shove a whole handful in his mouth at once. I'd been scolding him and rationing the cereal out one at a time to avoid it, but then it dawned on me that he's just been following my own example of wolfing down meals... something I didn't do until I had a son to take up all my time! So I've been trying to sit up straight and eat and chew more slowly for his sake-- and mine.

Oh, and get this... the kid is finally sleeping! Since mom's visit, he's been taking at least one nap, almost every day. Usually they're car seat-induced, but they last for at least 20 minutes. All you parents of normal babies out there might be thinking, "20 minutes?? that's a catnap!" But for a girl who's used to her son going all day without so much at 20 winks, 20 minutes is a God-send. I can get so much... er blogging.. done in that time!

In fact, he's snoozing on the couch right now. He also did me the extreme favor of sleeping in until 6:45 a.m. this morning!!! I feel like a new woman with all this sleep I've been getting. So anyhow. The rain seems to have let up some. When my sleeping beauty awakes, we're off to the bookstore to pick up a book for a friend.
